To upgrade your AWS RDS Aurora MySQL 5.6 instance to 5.7, you will first need to create a snapshot of your current instance. Once you have created the snapshot, you will need to create a new instance using the snapshot as your source. Once your new instance is created, you can then delete your old instance.

There is no in-place upgrade path from Aurora MySQL 5.6 to 5.7. However, you can export your data from an Aurora MySQL 5.6 DB cluster into a MySQL 5.7 DB instance using mysqldump, and then create a new Aurora MySQL 5.7 DB cluster from that instance.
