There are three primary imaging technologies that are used in medical imaging: x-ray, computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
X-ray images are created by using a small amount of ionizing radiation to produce a two-dimensional image of the body. CT scans use a series of x-rays to create a three-dimensional image of the body. MRI uses magnetic fields and radio waves to produce a three-dimensional image of the body.
