Cheaper Shopify Payments with Stripe

I have a client who is considering using Stripe for payments on their Shopify store. I'm not familiar with Stripe, so I was wondering if anyone here had any experience with it and could tell me if it's cheaper than Shopify Payments. Thanks!

The short answer is that it depends on your business model and which Shopify pricing plan you're on. With Shopify's Basic plan, you'll pay 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction for all Shopify Payments transactions. If you're on Shopify's more expensive plans (Shopify or Advanced Shopify), that rate lowers to 2.6% + $0.30 per transaction.

Stripe's pricing is a bit more complicated. They have a 2.9% + $0.30 charge for all card-based transactions, but they also have a number of other fees that may apply, including a 0.5% charge for ACH bank transfers, a 1% charge for international transactions, and a $15 charge for failed charges.
