Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT) is a centrally funded technical university located in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. It is one of the oldest engineering colleges in India. The institute was formerly known as Maulana Azad College of Technology (MACT) and was affiliated to the University of Bhopal. In 2002, it was upgraded to the status of a National Institute of Technology (NIT) and was renamed as Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology.
The institute offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes in Engineering, Sciences, Management and Humanities. The institute has been ranked among the top NITs in India by various ranking bodies.
The campus of MANIT is spread over an area of 1,186 acres and is located in the western part of Bhopal. The campus has several academic blocks, hostels, residential quarters, a central library, a computer centre, a gymnasium, a dispensary and other amenities.
MANIT has a total of 13 academic departments, which offer various undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes. The institute also has a school of excellence, which offers programmes in Information Technology and computational sciences.
The admission to undergraduate programmes at MANIT is through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). The admission to postgraduate programmes is through the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). The admission to doctoral programmes is through the Institute’s entrance test or the national-level entrance tests.
MANIT has a well-qualified and experienced faculty, which includes 80 professors, 220 associate professors and 550 assistant professors. The institute has a student-teacher ratio of 10:1.
The institute has a well-equipped central library, which has a collection of over 1.2 lakh books and subscribed to over 400 journals. The library has a digital section and a reading room. The institute has a computer centre, which has a network of over 1,000 computers.
The placement cell of the institute provides assistance to students in securing employment. The institute has a training and placement cell, which provides training to students in soft skills and personality development. The cell also coordinates with various industries and organizations for campus placements.
MANIT has been ranked among the top NITs in India by various ranking bodies. The institute was ranked 27th among engineering colleges by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in 2020. The institute was also ranked 22nd by Outlook India in 2019 and 29th by India Today in 2019.
