Ebooks from Amazon India cheaper?

I recently bought an ebook from amazon india and it was much cheaper than buying it from amazon.com. I'm curious as to why this is the case. Is it because the Indian market is different? Or is it because of something else?I'm curious as to what others think about this. Perhaps I can get some ideas to improve my ebook buying experience!
