How to make Google Contacts and Gmail work on Fire HD 10?

I just got a fire hd 10 and I'm trying to get my google contacts and gmail to work on it. I have followed the instructions on the Amazon website, but when I go to my gmail account, it says my device is not compatible. Any suggestions?
