The United States is the undisputed leader in terms of the number of startups. According to the State of the Global Startup Ecosystem report, produced by the Global Entrepreneurship Network in 2019, the U.S. had the most startups in the world, with 463,000. This means that approximately one-third of the world's total number of startups were located in the U.S.
The report also revealed that India was in second place with 243,000 startups, followed by the United Kingdom with 49,000 startups and Germany with 37,000 startups. Other countries with a large number of startups included China, Russia, and Canada.
Startup ecosystems are growing in countries around the world, with emerging markets like Africa, the Middle East, and Asia seeing particularly impressive growth in the last few years. It is estimated that there are now over 600,000 startups worldwide, and this number is expected to continue to grow in the coming years.
