The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB) is one of the twenty Institutes of Technology created as centres of excellence for higher training, research and development in India. IITB was established in 1958 with assistance from the Soviet Union. The Institute's main campus is located in Powai, Mumbai, and its second campus is in Zonal Avenue, Juhu.
IITB offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs in a variety of engineering and science disciplines. It has a joint Entrance Examination with IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras and IIT Roorkee for admission to its undergraduate programs.
The Institute has a strong research focus and offers a number of research programs leading to the degrees of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Master of Technology (MTech). IITB has a campus of 550 acres (2.2 km2) and a student body of about 11,000.
